As the watermain broke in New Orleans, River Communications staffers scrambled to find out what happened and what it meant for the city.
The water main broke on a Friday afternoon.
The city’s water and sewage systems were shut down until Friday evening.
That meant there was no electricity or communication for some in the city’s neighborhoods.
And that meant it was very hard to get a signal from anywhere.
The outage took the lives of three people, including a firefighter who was trying to put out a fire at a house in the Orleans neighborhood of Orleans.
A River Communications representative says three people died due to an incident at the Orleans Parish Water Plant.
The spokesperson says three employees were hospitalized with minor injuries.
It is unclear if the people were from River Communications or another department.
The New Orleans fire marshal is investigating.
The Orleans Police Department says it’s looking into the matter.
MTV News reached out to the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s office for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
